About

why this film now?

There are those who are calling for the immediate shut down of all fossil fuel production. If this goal were achieved right away, millions of people around the world would be left behind, left behind due to lack of modern energy or left behind due to unemployment.

What happens to developing countries in the Global South? Their citizens want and deserve the same standard of living as those in the West (which was mostly fuelled by access to cheap energy). Is it fair to stop them from developing their natural resources? What about the people who work in the oil and gas industry? Can we utilize their skills and expertise in the transition?

Can we address the climate crisis without leaving anyone behind?

The real issue on climate change is what’s going to happen when large portions of the Earth become significantly less habitable

About

what's the issue?

Climate change. It’s that simple. Gone are the days when people used to argue whether climate change is real or not. We’ve seen the effects with our own eyes, whether it’s towns  burning to the ground, record temperatures around the world, glaciers receding or sea level rise.

But addressing this crisis is more complex than most people think.

Energy transition has many dimensions. Energy security remains fundamental to modern living whether it’s in Europe, Africa or anywhere in the world. Producing and exporting fossil fuel energy usually accounts for significant employment and government income for countries or regions where the energy resource is found. Ignoring that as we transition will provoke resistance to transition.
At the centre of this film the question that we are asking ourselves, government leaders, industry experts and average citizens is, is there a way for us to address the climate crisis without leaving anyone behind?

"Today we live much longer, safer, healthier and more secure lives than at any other time in history and we have fossil fuel infrastructure to thank for that"

About

why should i care?

The energy and climate change question has been polarized for too long. It’s been climate change mitigation versus jobs, climate change mitigation versus energy security, climate change mitigation versus economic development of the Global South’s emerging economies, climate change versus standard of living. We need to find ways to reconcile the horns of these dilemmas through innovative technologies and policies. Unless we can come together and listen to each other, not with the intention of being proven right but just to listen to the other’s point of view, as we transition to a low-carbon future, many people will be left behind.

Energy Transition is more than just a documentary. It is a conversation starter that brings the global community together. We strongly believe that unless if we can have candid conversations about transitioning to a better, greener, low-carbon future, many people will be left behind.
